This academic tirade that caused riff's within a well respected community of mycologists began after University of Michigan's well-respected and renown mycologist, Alexander A. H. Smith wrote a short communication for the journal, Mycologia vol. 69: 1977. In his article, Dr. Smith displayed a resentment that his character had been personally attacked by Jonathan Ott through his publication of Hallucinogenic Plants of North America, and two articles written by Gastón Guzmán and co-authored by Jonathan Ott that appeared in Mycologia volume 68. I present the photos and links below for the two articles and feature the cover of Jonathan Ott's first book on hallucinogens. The course of this incident began in 1976 and ended in 1982. Why such a long time to respond to one another's accusations and subsequent long-distanced responses to reach the scholars involved. But subsequently, even Rolf Singer was faulty in several identifications of psilocybian mushrooms during his academic publishing career. And in such a manner, we can all say that we too have also had errors in all of our books because even knowledge is not perfect or scientifically correct.
